I was listening to a talk show. There was an author being interviewed. His comments caught my attention. Like me, he likes results. And he talks about how he likes using the vacuum cleaner because of how results oriented the vacuum cleaner is. Yes, turn it on, and immediately, dirt here, dirt gone. Talk about getting results!
I could really empathize with him when he said that he really enjoyed vacuuming the house. Whenever his wife would say, “honey, will you vacuum for me?”, he would be right on it!
He told about a particular day that he was asked to vacuum. Excitedly, he got his very favorite music, put on his ear plugs and plugged in the vacuum and started vacuuming. He was doing his dance and singing along with the music and vacuuming the floor. A little over halfway the room, his wife taps him on the shoulder and asks, “what are you doing? The vacuum is unplugged!” And sure enough, while he was so caught up in his singing and dancing, he had unplugged himself from the power!
Paying no attention to what he was doing, he was not doing anything but singing and dancing! No results! And there are many Christians just like that today. We get so caught up in distractions that we stop paying attention to what we are suppose to be doing. No results!
But remember the words of Jesus. We have power in Him to change the world. Stay connected to Him. This Gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God that vacuums the dirt of sin, sickness and lack from our homes and communities!
