“Stay Until the Healing Is Complete”
In life, we sometimes face the painful consequences of sin—whether our own or that of others. Sin wounds the heart, mind, and soul, much like an injury to the body. The temptation is often to walk away from the “hospital” of God’s grace before the healing is complete. Yet, just as a wounded body requires treatment and time, so does a wounded soul. Leaving too soon can result in spiritual infection or prolonged suffering.
The Bible reminds us of the importance of allowing God to heal us fully and remaining in His care until the process is complete.
Understanding the Wounds of Sin
Sin doesn’t just leave a mark—it creates a wound that only God can truly heal. David, after his sin with Bathsheba, recognized this when he cried out:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10).
When we sin, we often feel guilt, shame, or brokenness. This is part of the wound, and only the Great Physician, Jesus Christ, can heal it. Walking away from God’s presence before healing is complete leaves the soul vulnerable to repeated injury.
The Healing Process
1. Confession and Repentance
The first step to healing is acknowledging the sin and bringing it before God. “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13).
God’s hospital of grace welcomes us not with condemnation but with the promise of mercy.
2. Stay Under His Care
Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29).
Rest and healing take time. God invites us to stay close to Him, leaning on His Word and Spirit for guidance and comfort.
3. Spiritual Recovery Requires Patience
Healing is often not instantaneous. Like a physical wound, spiritual wounds need time to mend. The Apostle Peter reminds us, “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you” (1 Peter 5:10).
If we leave before the “stablishing” and “strengthening” are complete, we risk re-opening the wound.
Don’t Rush the Healing
Just as a patient wouldn’t leave the hospital prematurely, we must allow God to complete His work in us. Paul encourages us: “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
God’s timing is perfect, and His healing process is thorough. Trust Him to bind up your wounds and make you whole again.
Beloved, if you are wounded by sin, don’t leave the “hospital” of God’s grace before the healing is done. Stay in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with Him. Trust that He will heal your heart and make you whole again, for “he healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
God’s healing is worth the wait—don’t walk away too soon.
