My Top 10 Serious Consequences of not Reading the Bible
Top 1-5
1. Spiritual malnourishment:
Lack of Bible reading can lead to spiritual weakness and stunted growth in one’s faith.
– Matthew 4:4: “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
2. Vulnerability to false teachings:
Without a solid foundation in Scripture, one becomes more susceptible to deception by false teachers.
– Acts 17:11: “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”
3. Misunderstanding God’s will:
Not reading the Bible can lead to confusion about God’s desires and plans for one’s life.
– Romans 12:2: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
4. Increased anxiety and fear:
Regular Bible reading provides peace and comfort, while neglecting it can lead to worry and insecurity.
– Philippians 4:6-7: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
5. Poor decision-making:
Without Biblical guidance, one may make choices that go against God’s wisdom.
– Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

6. Drift away from God:
Neglecting Scripture can cause a gradual distancing from one’s relationship with God.
– Hebrews 2:1: “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.”
7. Lack of discernment:
Bible reading helps develop the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, truth and falsehood.
– Hebrews 5:14: “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
8. Weakened defense against sin:
Scripture provides strength to resist temptation and overcome sinful habits.
– Psalm 119:11: “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
9. Diminished ability to share faith:
Not knowing the Bible well makes it difficult to explain one’s beliefs to others.
– 1 Peter 3:15: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.”
10. Stunted spiritual transformation:
The Bible is a primary tool God uses to shape believers into Christ’s image; neglecting it hinders this process.
– 2 Timothy 3:16-17: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
These scriptures emphasize the importance of regular Bible reading for a healthy spiritual life and relationship with God. Join me in the study of the Bible at Victory Temple Church of God in Christ and The Evidence Church 2.
