Daily Watchman Report – March 22, 2026

Prepared By: Superintendent Dr. Gary L. Cordon, Sr.

OPENING SUMMARY

Beloved, we stand in a moment of profound global shaking, where nations rise against nations, and the foundations of security and provision tremble. The escalating conflict in the Middle East, centered on Iran, has drawn the United States and Israel into direct confrontations, with missile strikes, threats to vital waterways like the Strait of Hormuz, and retaliatory actions rippling across the world. Oil routes hang in the balance, alliances are tested, and the specter of broader war looms. At home, political tensions, funding battles for homeland security, and ongoing divisions remind us that earthly powers are fragile and often divided. Yet in this hour, the Lord calls His people not to fear but to discern the times, stand firm in faith, and intercede as watchmen on the walls. These events are not random; they are signs pointing us to our eternal Anchor in Christ.

NEWS BY REGION

1. WORLD NEWS

Headline: Escalating Iran Conflict: US and Israel Strike Iranian Nuclear Sites; Iran Retaliates with Missiles on Regional Bases and Threats to Strait of Hormuz

What Happened: The United States and Israel have conducted strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, including Natanz, amid the ongoing war now in its fourth week. Iran has responded with ballistic missile attacks on joint US-UK bases (e.g., in the Indian Ocean, including near Diego Garcia) and maintains the Strait of Hormuz is open but warns against “enemy-linked” ships. Over 20 countries are uniting to safeguard shipping lanes amid fears of disruption.

Why It Matters: This marks a dangerous escalation in the Middle East crisis, threatening global energy supplies, drawing in NATO allies, and risking wider international involvement as alliances fracture and new fronts open.

Impact on Black Families / Vulnerable Communities: Skyrocketing oil prices from any Hormuz disruption would drive up fuel, food, and transportation costs, hitting low-income households hardest—many Black and vulnerable families already stretched thin by inflation would face deeper poverty, reduced mobility, and heightened food insecurity.

Pastoral / Ministry Implication: The church must prepare for economic ripples that increase desperation; this is a call to ramp up mercy ministries, food pantries, and support networks while proclaiming the Prince of Peace amid rumors of wars (Matthew 24:6-7).

Headline: Russia Downs Ukrainian Drones Near Refineries; Broader Geopolitical Tensions Persist

What Happened: Russian forces intercepted Ukrainian drones targeting oil refineries in Bashkortostan, amid ongoing Ukraine conflict spillover.

Why It Matters: Continued energy infrastructure attacks signal prolonged instability in global energy markets and alliances.

Impact on Black Families / Vulnerable Communities: Persistent high energy costs exacerbate household budgets in already marginalized communities.

Pastoral / Ministry Implication: Instability reminds us of the temporary nature of worldly security; urge the church to invest in eternal treasures and community resilience.

2. UNITED STATES NEWS

Headline: Trump Administration Pushes NATO Allies to ‘Step Up’ Amid Iran Conflict; Ongoing Funding Battles for DHS and ICE

What Happened: President Trump calls on NATO to increase involvement in the Iran situation, while domestic standoffs over funding Homeland Security and ICE continue, with threats of shutdowns and enforcement actions.

Why It Matters: This highlights strained international commitments and deep domestic political divisions over immigration, security, and government operations.

Impact on Black Families / Vulnerable Communities: Potential shutdowns or intensified enforcement could disrupt families, jobs, and access to services; unequal impacts often fall on communities of color through systemic enforcement disparities.

Pastoral / Ministry Implication: The church must advocate justly, support affected families, and pray for wise governance while modeling unity in Christ.

3. NORTH CAROLINA NEWS

Headline: Ongoing Political and Community Tensions; Legislative/Educational Conferences and Local Preparations

What Happened: Events like the NCARD Legislative/Educational Conference proceed in Raleigh, amid broader state discussions on policy and growth.

Why It Matters: State-level gatherings shape policies on education, economy, and community needs.

Impact on Black Families / Vulnerable Communities: Policies emerging from such forums can affect education funding, healthcare, and economic opportunities in underserved areas.

Pastoral / Ministry Implication: Engage in prayerful advocacy for equitable policies that uplift the marginalized.

4. NORTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA NEWS

Headline: Regional Drug Task Force Efforts and Community Safety Concerns

What Happened: Northeastern law enforcement, including partnerships with the SBI, continue anti-narcotics operations targeting meth and fentanyl in the area.

Why It Matters: These efforts address persistent drug challenges in rural communities.

Impact on Black Families / Vulnerable Communities: Drug crises disproportionately affect families through addiction, incarceration, and loss, deepening cycles of poverty and trauma.

Pastoral / Ministry Implication: The church is called to frontline ministry—recovery support, youth prevention, and healing for broken families.

5. BERTIE COUNTY NEWS

Headline: Ongoing Investigations into Local Incidents; Community Vigilance

What Happened: Sheriff’s office continues probes into recent violent incidents (e.g., shootings and fires in Aulander and surrounding areas), with calls for public assistance.

Why It Matters: Small-town safety directly affects daily life and trust in local systems.

Impact on Black Families / Vulnerable Communities: In majority-Black Bertie County, violence and investigations heighten fear, strain resources, and compound generational trauma.

Pastoral / Ministry Implication: Strengthen local church presence for counseling, prayer, and community building to foster peace.

HOW THIS TOUCHES BLACK FAMILIES, THE POOR, AND THE FORGOTTEN

Global conflict drives energy prices higher, intensifying poverty pressures—gas for work commutes becomes unaffordable, food costs rise due to transport, and heating/cooling strains budgets in near-poverty homes. Systemic racism shows in unequal enforcement: immigration crackdowns or security measures often disproportionately target communities of color, echoing “color of law” abuses. Education disparities widen as families face instability; healthcare access suffers when jobs falter or costs soar. Housing instability grows with economic strain; food insecurity spikes amid inflation. Employment challenges mount in volatile markets; transportation limitations trap rural families. Mental/emotional strain from world fears and local violence burdens minds. Churches carry heavier loads supporting the hurting. Generational impact: children inherit trauma, debt, and limited opportunity—yet the church can break cycles through faithful service.

BIBLICAL AND PROPHETIC PERSPECTIVE

These are days of nations in distress, with perplexity at the roaring of seas and waves (economic and geopolitical turmoil). We see systems shaken, moral confusion, and deception abounding.

Scripture Foundation:
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” (Matthew 24:6-8, KJV)

“But when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” (Luke 21:28, KJV)

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Philippians 4:6, KJV)

Spiritual Discernment: This is the shaking of Hebrews 12:27—temporary things removed so eternal things remain. Moral decline tempts fear, but God calls for awakening: opportunities abound for evangelism as hearts seek answers. The church must discern deception, reject complacency, and embrace urgency.

ADMONITION TO THE CHURCH

Church, we must stop:

  • Ignoring the cries of the poor while chasing comfort.
  • Allowing division over politics to eclipse the Gospel.
  • Being silent on injustice when the Bible demands justice.

We must start:

  • Prioritizing prayer meetings for nations and neighborhoods.
  • Serving the hurting through practical aid and presence.
  • Preaching uncompromised truth with love.

Believers should respond spiritually by: seeking holiness, fasting, and fervent prayer. Practically by: stocking mercy resources, checking on vulnerable neighbors, and advocating wisely.

Call to prayer without ceasing, holiness in conduct, unity in the Spirit, bold evangelism, and sacrificial service to the hurting.

WHAT GOD IS SHOWING ME…
In the roar of wars and threats, God whispers: “Be still, and know that I am God”—the same hand that calms storms is calling His church to rise in faith, not panic.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER

Heavenly Father, Sovereign Lord of all nations, we come before Your throne on behalf of the nations entangled in conflict—bring wisdom to leaders, restraint to aggression, and peace that surpasses understanding. Guard the United States amid divisions and decisions; grant repentance and righteous governance. For North Carolina, Northeastern North Carolina, and Bertie County, protect our communities, expose evil, and heal divisions.

Lord, shield Black families, the poor and near-poor from economic crushing—provide provision, jobs, and stability. Watch over children and youth, elders in frailty, schools facing strain, and churches carrying burdens. Grant wisdom to government leaders and law enforcement; let justice roll down.

Heal the sick, comfort the grieving, deliver the oppressed. Protect us from harm, impart wisdom in chaos, lead to repentance, bring healing to bodies and hearts, provide for daily needs, establish justice, and pour out Your peace.

Stir revival in our land—turn hearts to You. We exalt Jesus Christ as Lord and King, the Prince of Peace, in whose name we pray. Amen.

FINAL WATCHMAN CHARGE

Stand watch, church—lift your eyes to the Redeemer; in these shaking times, your faith and faithfulness shine as lights in the darkness.
