Come Because of Your Why

Come Because of Your Why

If the only reason you attend church is because somebody told you that you should, eventually obligation will lose its power. There are too many competing demands, too many distractions, and too many reasons to stay home. A rule without understanding becomes fragile under pressure.

That is why we have to return to the question of why. Why worship? Why gather? Why pray with other believers? Why bring the children? Why hear preaching and teaching? Why stay connected when life becomes difficult?

You Come Because You Need Jesus

John 15:5 records Jesus saying, “without me ye can do nothing.” That is not weakness; that is reality. We were never designed to live independently of God.

You come because your strength has limits. Your knowledge has limits. Your money has limits. Your relationships have limits. Even the people who love you most cannot be everything you need. Jesus is not one more item on the schedule. He is Lord.

You Come Because Your Faith Needs Feeding

Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” We need repeated exposure to truth because the world is constantly preaching something else to us. Fear preaches. Culture preaches. disappointment preaches. Social media preaches. Our own emotions can preach.

That is why we need the Word. Do not just think; think about what you think about. The Word of God helps us examine the thoughts we have accepted and bring them back under the authority of Christ.

You Come Because Your Children Are Watching

Your children may not remember every sermon, but they will remember what your life taught them was important. They are learning from what you prioritize, how you respond to pressure, what you do when you are disappointed, and whether faith remains important when life is inconvenient.

You Come Because Somebody Else May Need You

Church is not only about what you receive. Somebody may need your greeting, your testimony, your prayer, your presence, your example, your giving, or your encouragement. God often ministers to people through people.

Hebrews 10:24 says, “And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.” Sometimes just showing up puts you in position to strengthen somebody else.

You Come Because God Is Worthy

Even if nothing changed immediately in your circumstances, God would still be worthy of worship. Worship is not payment for blessings received. Worship is the response of creation to the Creator, of the redeemed to the Redeemer.

God is God and I believe God. That is a strong enough reason to keep coming, keep trusting, keep listening, and keep worshiping.

What God Is Showing Me… When my why becomes clear, my worship stops feeling like another obligation and starts becoming a response to who God is.
